Drury Lane, which borders Lincoln’s Inn’s Field, is
popular for its muffins made by Mr. Mann. While the popular bran, blueberry and
poppy seed baked goods spotlight the street as a popular destination, as of
late they have not been able to mask the potential health and crime hazard of
the rest of the street. It has been found to be “a very nasty dirty little street this — full worthy, I take it, to challenge competition with Church Lane or Buckeridge Street” (Household
Words Vol III ,568). The Muffin Man urges city officials to put money towards the
renovation and care of the popular Drury Lane. The fog, mud and beggars
threaten the well-being and safety of the store and the quality of the muffins.
It is probable that if nothing is done, the Muffin Man may be no more!
